Madonna - We Have Her Key

I love comedian Robin Williams’ famous quote, “If you remember the 60’s, you weren’t there.” Now if I have to explain to you why that’s funny, I guess either you really weren’t there or you don’t understand the drug implications in the quote. I’m also pretty sure that you could apply that saying to any of the subsequent decades as well, but just for the following story, how about if we change William’s quote slightly to “If you remember the 80’s, you weren’t there”?

25 Sensational Instrumentals

This month, Ron Witucki, John Len, and yours truly, Dr. J, met with the intention of picking 25 great instrumental records. We used our tried and true approach of secretly selecting our Top 50 choices beforehand, and then bringing our lists to the meeting. There, we assigned a point value to each of our selections (50 pts. for # 1, 49 pts. for # 2 and so on.) The songs that garnered the highest point totals make up the following list. All of our final 25 are from the years 1956 through 1963 - the golden age of Rock and Roll instrumental hits.

25 (Actually 35) Great Doo Wop Songs

What is it about guys and lists? It doesn't seem to me that women have the same compulsion to compile lists of things and then rank them from 1 to 10, 1 to 100, or even 1 to 500 like men do. So what are three retired male educators who get together every few months to listen to and discuss songs from Rock and Roll's first golden decade going to do? Ron Witucki, John Len, and yours truly decided to make lists of our favorite tunes, of course, and then come up with a system (this part is probably a teacher thing) to determine 25 great songs in a particular genre. Why? Because it's fun for guys to do this type of thing.
