“You’re So Fine” (L. Finney, W. Schofield, R. West) - The Falcons; Flick and Unart labels, # 17 Billboard Hot 100, # 2 Billboard Hot R&B – 1959. Inducted in 2024.
“You’re So Fine” was original released on Robert West’s tiny Flick label before being leased by Unart for national distribution. It was the biggest hit by The Falcons, a Detroit group composed of West’s nephew Eddie Floyd along with Mack Rice and Joe Stubbs, Levi Stubbs’ younger brother.
The popularity of “You’re So Fine” led to an appearance by the Falcons on American Bandstand in 1959. Their lip-synched performance of their hit enabled them to become the very first Detroit vocal group to visit the program.
After follow-up singles failed to chart, Stubbs left the group and was replaced by Wilson Pickett. With Pickett singing lead, the Falcons charted one last hit with “I Found A Love” in 1962 before the group broke up and Pickett, Floyd, and Rice went on to successful solo careers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCLj8-scK8A
