Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame inductee Dave ‘Baby’ Cortez was born David Cortez Clowney in Detroit in 1938. Encouraged to take up piano by his father, he made his first recording in the Motor City as a singer/pianist with the Five Pearls doo wop group in 1954. After relocating to New York, he began recording under the stage name Dave ‘Baby’ Cortez in 1958 on the Okeh label.

I got an interesting Halloween surprise today when we walked over to the Coffee Box in Rahway, NJ, for our usual iced mocha with decaf and skimmed milk. We sat down and suddenly “What A Way To Die” by the Pleasure Seekers starts playing on the shop’s sound system!

There is no question that Bruce Springsteen is one of the world’s great musical artists. Among rock artists who have charted in the United States, only The Beatles have had more # 1 albums than Springsteen. Along with Bob Seger and John Mellencamp, he has been one of the major proponents of what became known as heartland rock. For over five decades, "The Boss" has combined commercially successful songs with poetic, socially conscious lyrics that reflect working class American life and the political realities that affect it. I’ve been an unabashed fan from the beginning, and the following is a listing of my favorite Bruce Springsteen albums.
