"What A Way To Die" (Dave Leone) - The Pleasure Seekers; Hideout label, Did not chart nationally - 1965.

The Pleasure Seekers were formed by sisters Patti and Suzi Quatro to play at The Hideout teen club, located in the Detroit suburb of Harper Woods. “Suzi Quatro was fourteen, and she would pump Cokes for us at the club,” owner Dave Leone recalled. “Suzi and her sister Patti said, ‘We want to get a band together and play’ and I said to go ahead, and they started working in their basement.”

The original lineup included lead singers Suzi on bass and Patti on guitar, with Nancy Ball on drums, Mary Lou Ball on guitar, and Diane Baker on piano. The girls had the advantage of being very attractive, but they soon proved that they could rock just as hard as the boys.

Dave Leone wrote both songs on the Pleasure Seekers’ debut single on his Hideout label in 1965. “What A Way To Die” was the standout side, but the fact that it was a paean to underage drinking and mentioned Stroh’s, Schlitz, and Colt 45 in its lyrics guaranteed that this classic anthem of teen rebellion would never get played on the radio.
